I usually don’t do landscape photography, basically because I live in the city and there’s not a lot of landscape around, but when you get to Lisbon, you get to once in a while to a Miradouro (here the São Pedro de Alcântara lookout) where the city becomes a landscape scenery looking out toward São Jorge Castle. I approached this one in two different ways. Because it was such an extensive view, I wanted to do a panorama of the view. This is the second picture. Basically, I took three pictures one after the other. The rest of the work is done in Lightroom, where it glues those 3 pictures together appropriately so it becomes just one giant landscape panoramic picture.

I also took one picture focusing on the main subject of the image: São Jorge Castle and those wonderful clouds over it.

The philosophy of my post-processing for both pictures is always the same in colour for me : not overdo it, respect the reality of the landscape (as my eyes saw as the camera has a pretty flat point of view). Make sure that the subject is well served by the editing, for example: the foreground was too bright here, it takes away from the image, and so I darkened it a little bit to prevent the eyes from going right to it. Finally, I give it a bit of an analogue look, which is pretty much my usual colour and black-and-white post-processing workflow.

Je ne fais généralement pas de photographie de paysage, principalement parce que je vis en ville et qu'il n'y a pas beaucoup de paysages ici. Mais lorsque vous arrivez à Lisbonne, vous pouvez de temps en temps aller à un Miradouro (ici le belvédère de São Pedro de Alcântara) où la ville devient un décor paysager en regardant vers le château de São Jorge. J'ai abordé cette scène de deux manières différentes. Comme la vue était si vaste, je voulais en faire un panorama. C'est la deuxième photo. En gros, j'ai pris trois photos consécutives. Le reste du travail est fait dans Lightroom, où il assemble correctement ces trois photos pour qu'elles deviennent une seule grande image de paysage panoramique.

J'ai également pris une photo en me concentrant sur le sujet principal de l'image, c'est-à-dire le château de São Jorge et ces magnifiques nuages au-dessus.

La philosophie de mon post-traitement pour les deux photos est toujours la même en couleur : ne pas en faire trop, respecter la réalité du paysage (ce que mes yeux ont vu, la caméra a toujours un point de vu plutôt neutre, sans contraste). S'assurer que le sujet est bien mis en valeur par l'édition, par exemple : l’avant plan était trop lumineux ici, ce qui distrayait de l’image, donc je l'ai légèrement assombri pour éviter que les yeux ne s’y dirigent directement. Enfin, je lui donne un léger aspect analogique, ce qui correspond à peu près à mon flux de travail habituel en post-traitement pour la couleur et le noir et blanc.
