The workflow

One of the little things I try to do when shooting street is try to synchronize the background or foreground with the subject. Here, for example: it’s a new café on Mont-Royal Avenue with some design on the window with a counter for customers. I got my subject to line up with the circle of the logo. This being a cloudy day, it gives you a flat image; black and white was (is?) my obvious choice, pushing up the contrast, and making sure that the eyes go right to the subject. The exposure was quite dark, and so I opened up the shadows inside the restaurant yet tried to keep the outside as dark as possible with some masks, especially on the right side of the picture. //

L'un des petits détails que j'essaie d'ajouter à mes photos est d’essayer de synchroniser l'arrière-plan ou l'avant-plan avec le sujet Ici, par exemple : c'est un nouveau Café sur l'avenue Mont-Royal avec un motif sur la vitrine et un comptoir pour les clients. J'ai aligné mon sujet avec le cercle du logo. Comme c'était une journée nuageuse, cela donne une image qui manque de contraste ; le noir et blanc était (est ?) mon choix évident, en augmentant le contraste et en veillant à ce que le regard se dirige directement vers le sujet. L'exposition était assez sombre, donc j'ai éclairci les ombres à l'intérieur du Café tout en essayant de garder l'extérieur aussi sombre que possible à l'aide de masques, surtout du côté droit de la photo.
