The workflow

Another Saul Leiter influence picture. Sometimes one gets to play with objects, and the role they play against people, like this library lamp replacing somebody’s head. It’s a long lens, a 75mm inside a public library, and I played with a wide aperture to cut the busy background and foreground. It’s a bit of a surrealist image.

My real dilemma was whether I would make it a black-and-white image or a colour one. I think I prefer the B&W one simply because the colours are less distracting, although it’s not a cut-and-dry pick. //

Une auto photo à la Saul Leiter . Parfois, on s'amuse avec les objets et la place qu'ils occupent par rapport aux gens, comme cette lampe de bibliothèque qui vient remplacer la tête de quelqu'un. C'est pris avec un téléobjectif court, un 75 mm à l'intérieur d'une bibliothèque publique, et j'ai joué avec une grande ouverture pour isoler le sujet d'un arrière-plan et d'un premier plan très chargés. C'est une image un peu surréaliste.

Mon vrai dilemme était de savoir si j'allais en faire une photo en noir et blanc ou en couleur. Je crois que je préfère la version noir et blanc, tout simplement parce que les couleurs distraient moins l'œil, même si ce n'est pas un choix tranché.
