I’ve acquired a new wide-angle lens, one could call it a super wide-angle, a 21mm f/3.5 Ksana from Thypoch, one of the few Chinese lens makers that gives Leica users the possibility to get a good lens for a lot cheaper price than the more prestigious but expensive Leica brand lenses.

I’ve always wanted a wider than 28mm lens for my M10, the 24mm was out of the question as it is rather rare on the used market and therefore super expensive. 21 seems like a good compromise, I like the slight distortion it gives, the coating on the lens makes its flairs nice and even when shooting into the sun. But it’s also wonderful in a street photography situation, where because of the construction of the lens I barely need to focus at f/8 rendering my camera a basic point-and-shoot camera.

But it does require you to be really close to your subject to have the desired effect, something I need to learn. It’s not for the faint of heart if, like me, confidence is sometimes lacking.

That said, it’s also a nice lens to have when dealing with architecture. Like the picture here. //

J’ai acquis un nouvel objectif grand-angle, on pourrait l’appeler un super grand-angle, un 21mm f/3.5 Ksana de Thypoch, l’un des rares fabricants chinois qui offre aux utilisateurs de Leica la possibilité d’obtenir un bon objectif à un prix beaucoup plus abordable que les objectifs de la marque Leica, plus prestigieux mais coûteux.

J’ai toujours voulu un objectif plus large que 28mm pour mon M10 ; le 24mm était hors de question car il est assez rare sur le marché de l’occasion et donc extrêmement cher. Le 21mm semble être un bon compromis. J’aime la légère distorsion qu’il procure, et le traitement de la lentille rend ses flares agréables et réguliers même en photographiant en plein soleil. Mais il est également excellent en situation de photographie de rue, car, grâce à la construction de l’objectif, je n’ai quasiment pas besoin de faire la mise au point à f/8, transformant ainsi mon appareil en un simple appareil « point-and-shoot ».

Cependant, il faut vraiment être très proche de son sujet pour obtenir l’effet désiré, ce que je dois apprendre. Ce n’est pas pour les timides si, comme moi, la confiance fait parfois défaut.

Cela dit, c’est aussi un bel objectif à avoir pour photographier l’architecture. Comme sur la photo ici.
